K-1 League Rules

LEAGUE SPECIFIC RULES:

The game will be four (4) quarters with six (6) minutes per quarter. It will be a running clock throughout the game. Only time the clock will stop is timeouts, or injury. 

  • Goal height is 8’
  • The ball size is 27.5”  
  • No overtime: game will be recorded as a tie  

PLAYING TIME REQUIREMENTS 

  • Each player must play one full quarter in each half of the game.  
  • Exception to the rule: If the on-court official believes a player should be removed from the game due to illness, injury or equipment failure, which is the official’s judgement might jeopardize the safety or well-being of said player or other players in the game  
  • Equal playing time is the goal 
  • Substitutions are encouraged and a brief clock stoppage will occur when needed, in order to re-match wristbands
  • No 3-point shots: if a 3-pointer is attempted and made it will count as 2 points. 
  • Ball handling violations (travel and double dribbles) will be called more as the season progresses. 

DEFENSE

  • Players cannot play defense until the offense crosses the three point line, or 5 seconds after crossing half court.
  • Each player shall wear a wristband that coordinates in color with the wristband of an opposing player. 
  • Man-to-man defense ONLY. Help defense is only allowed if an offensive player is dribbling to the basket and has clearly ahead of his defender but must return to their man after helping.  
  • Helping is only allowed in the free throw lane.
  • NO PRESSING & NO DOUBLE TEAMING at any time. 
  • Stealing is NOT allowed. A defender may steal a pass or pick up a loose ball. When the defense takes possession of the ball, the offense must return to the defensive end of the court  
  • A defensive player CANNOT leave his/her assigned offensive player and steal a pass that was intended for an offensive player across the court. A defensive player can steal a pass made to his/her man. 
  • FOULS
  • Fouls will be called. Fouls will result in an out of bounds possession for the team that was fouled. Fouls will NOT be tracked. No free throws. 

TIME OUTS

  • Each team will be allowed 1 time out per half. Time outs must be taken in their respective halves -- use it or lose it. Timeouts will be one (1) minute in length  

VISITORS AND HOME

  • Visitors/Home team will be based on the set schedule. Visitors will be responsible for the time clock and scoreboard. Home will be responsible for scorebook. Please use adults for these responsibilities.  

HIGH-SCORER RULE

  • A maximum of twelve (12) points per player will be allowed to encourage coaches to develop other players in that league. The high scorer will be allowed to continue to play; however, after twelve (12) points made by high scorer will NOT count. If the high scorer does score a basket, the points will NOT be counted, and the opposing team will get the ball.  

 

MISC

  • Each team may have one coach on the floor with the kids directing them.
