The Lehigh Valley IronPigs are the inspiration for EYS’ iteration. The IronPigs—one word—are Triple-A affiliates of the Philadelphia Phillies and play in the International League. They began as the Ottawa Lynx in 1993 and became the IronPigs after moving to Allentown, Pennsylvania for the 2008 season.

The nickname was selected in a name-the-team contest and refers to the steelmaking history of the Lehigh Valley region. The IronPigs feature two mascots named FeRROUS and FeFe. Their names are derived from the Latin term for iron, which is ferrum, and the elemental symbol for iron, Fe.

The IronPigs are part of EYS’ Co-ed, Developmental, Rookie, and Minor leagues.
