The Emeralds honor the Eugene Emeralds, a High-A member of the Northwest League that is affiliated with the San Francisco Giants. The team was named through a local contest in 1955 by an 11-year-old boy named Bowen Blair.

The team’s logo is based upon the legend of Sasquatch, better known as Bigfoot. The logo was adopted in 2012.

The Emeralds are one of just two teams represented in a single league at EYS, joining the Red Wings in the 7-8 Rookie League.
