The Storm are named after the Lake Elsinore (Calif.) Storm, a Single-A affiliate of the San Diego Padres. The Storm have been in operation since the 1979 season and have a history as the Santa Clara Padres, the Redwood Pioneers, and the Palm Springs Angles. Since 1994, they have been known as their current name.

The name Storm was selected because it was considered intimidating. The Storm mascot is named Thunder The Big Green Dog, but he looks nothing like a dog. However, he claims to be the California Mascot of the Year.

The Storm are one of the three teams in EYS to be represented in all five baseball leagues.
