The Hooks are named after the Corpus Christi Hooks, a Double-A affiliate of the Houston Astros. The team is named for Corpus Christi, Texas’ association with fishing.

The Hooks began as the Memphis Blues in 1968 and has moved to several locations before settling in Corpus Christi in 2004. The team held a contest to select a new nickname, and Corpus Christi resident Michael Braly. The Hooks have two mascots, Sammy the Seagull and Rust the Fish Hook.

Rusty is one of three logos to appear in every league at EYS.
